Este projeto demorou vinte e quatro anos a concretizar.

Durante esse tempo, percorri as nove ilhas do arquipélago, onde documentei a alegria das festas, a ternura das meninas vestidas de princesas, a nobreza do trabalho, a beleza da paisagem, o exotismo de animais e plantas.

Deixo aqui o testemunho de uma cultura única, densa e intensa, de um mundo à beira da extinção.

PROFOUND AZORES

This project took twenty-four years to accomplish.

During that time, I toured the nine islands of the archipelago, where I documented the joy of the festivities, the tenderness of the girls dressed as princesses, the nobility of the work, the beauty of the landscape, the exoticism of animals and plants.

I leave here the testimony of a unique, dense and intense culture, of a world on the verge of extinction.
